Water, hardness, and street work across the service area
Who supplies it
Aqua Pennsylvania supplies T/E. Much of the area, including Devon, is served by its Pickering Creek treatment system, with the Brandywine Creek system also supplying the two townships.
How hard it is
A local water treatment company reports roughly 7 to 10 grains per gallon of hardness. That scale is behind many toilet, faucet, and water heater calls in every village we serve.
Main replacements
Aqua has been replacing old cast iron mains on streets including Yellow Springs Road, Salem Way, Salem Court, Glenhardie Road, and Bear Hill Road (Route 252), with Easttown streets in the same program. Street work can bring sediment and pressure changes for a while.
On September 21, 2026, Aqua reported earthy or musty tastes in Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties from naturally occurring compounds in the source water, and said the water met state and federal standards. When a whole neighborhood notices the same taste, it is the supply, not your pipes.

Long cold snaps
During the late January 2026 cold, Philadelphia’s water department warned that pipes can be seriously affected after about three days below freezing. Aqua’s winter guidance includes marking your master valve, checking outdoor meter pit lids, and draining outside faucets.
Heavy storms
In 2021, Tropical Storm Fred dropped about 4 inches of rain in an hour and a half, and Ida brought more than 8 inches to the region. Trout Creek flooded the Gateway Shopping Center, and Tredyffrin residents packed public meetings about flooding afterward.

How T/E grew
How the service area grew, and what it left in the walls
Welsh settlement
Tredyffrin’s name comes from Welsh words for town and valley. Easttown was created in 1704 and settled by Welsh Quakers, and much of it was farmland for generations. Farmhouses from that era still stand, with plumbing added long after they were built.
The railroad villages
The Main Line railroad turned farmland into commuter villages around stations at Strafford, Devon, Berwyn, Daylesford, and Paoli. Strafford’s station came from the 1876 Centennial Exposition, and Berwyn took its name in 1877.
The postwar boom
Neighborhoods like Strafford Village filled in during the 1940s and early 1950s, bringing the galvanized supply pipe and cast iron drains still being replaced today.
Planned villages
Chesterbrook added a planned community of 28 villages, and with it attached homes where a leak in one unit quickly becomes a neighbor’s problem.
